Project 1: Brain Development from Conception to 3 Years Old

HLDG01.02.07 - Use medical terminology in order to interpret, transcribe, and communicate information, data, and observations.
In this project I will demonstrate the brain development of a child from the time of conception to three years of age.
Trimester 1

Neural Tube Formation

About two weeks after conception, the neural plate begins to fold onto itself.

This process is complete by 4 weeks, and the neural tube will eventually form into the brain and spinal cord.

Neuron and Synapse Development

Around week 7 after conception, the first neurons and synapses begin to develop in the spinal cord.

These early neuron connections make fetal movement possible, which in turn, give the brain sensory input.
